What This Update Is

Ukrainian studio GSC Game World has released the first major update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl after patch 2.0. The update is called "Deeper Into the Zone". The developers described it in the game's Steam news post.

The main idea of the update is to make the game world feel more alive: expand the simulation of characters' and mutants' lives (the A-Life system), fix bugs, and improve performance.

What Players Can See in the Game

The main new feature: players can manually increase the distance at which the A-Life simulation is rendered and streamed. NPC and mutant life can now be seen from farther away.

The developers also updated binoculars, increased the target recognition radius, and extended the range at which gunfights can be heard. A fast-travel option with friendly or neutral squads was added.

Fixes to Enemy and Ally Behavior

Part of the work focused on the AI of characters. Excessive spawning of NPCs and mutants at the locations "Rostok" and "Arc" was fixed. Incorrect aiming by armed characters, models hanging in the air, and bugs when searching corpses were also fixed. The AI's perception of cover was improved.

Story, PlayStation 5, and Performance

The studio fixed critical bugs for the PlayStation 5 version. Previously, important quest characters such as Shram, Zulus, or Varan and some items could disappear. Fixed issues include a map freeze caused by a memory leak when there are many markers, incorrect rendering of anomalies on the GPU, and progression errors during the DLC.
